An iPhone 5 allegedly electrocuted a Chinese flight attendant to death when she picked up the smartphone while charging.

中國一名空姐用正在充電的蘋果手機(jī)接電話時被電擊致死。

Ma Ailun, a 23-year-old woman from Xinjiang in northwestern China, was awaiting her wedding on August 18 after quitting her job as a flight attendant, according to her sister who took her claim to China's social network Sina Weibo.

根據(jù)死者姐姐的新浪微博(中國的社交網(wǎng)絡(luò))，空姐馬愛倫23歲，來自中國西北的新疆自治區(qū)。她本計劃辭去工作，為8月18日自己的新婚之日做準(zhǔn)備。

Ma collapsed to the floor and died from electrocution while answering a call while charging her iPhone 5 Thursday, according to local police.

The victim's sister demanded a response from Apple, while warning iPhone users of the danger of using phones while charging them.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of this tragic incident and offer our condolences to the Ma family," Apple's Beijing-based spokeswoman, said Monday. "We wiill fully investigate and cooperate with authorities in this matter."

The cause of Ma's death has been confirmed by police as electrocution, according to the state news agency Xinhua, but it is unclear as to whether the iPhone was involved or not.

據(jù)新華社消息，警方已證實(shí)馬愛倫確實(shí)是全身過電而死，但仍在調(diào)查是否是由于蘋果手機(jī)造成。

The likelihood of someone being electrocuted by a smartphone, according to experts, is very low, CNN reports. Even while charging, phones charged from a USB cord have a supply voltage of just 5 volts, which would be harmless to a person.

美國有線電視新聞網(wǎng)報道，專家認(rèn)為受充電手機(jī)電擊致死的可能性非常小。即使在充電過程中，使用數(shù)據(jù)線充電的手機(jī)只有5伏電壓，幾乎不會造成傷害。只有當(dāng)電壓達(dá)到36伏左右時才可被人體感知。

"We have seen very few incidents related to shock or electrocution (involving cell phones)，" Scott Wolfson, communications director for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, said, according to CNN. "Most of our attention has been on overheating, smoke or fire."

When the phone is charged through a substandard or incompatible charger, the risks become greater, because of the possible lack of proper insulation in the charger. Ma's sister, however, insisted that the victim was using the original charger that accompanied the iPhone bought at an official Apple store.

The iPhone 5 involved in Ma's death is under investigation, and we cannot verify her claim until the results are out. As counterfeit Apple products are widespread in China, "it’s entirely possible to buy a counterfeit charger believing it to be genuine, perhaps even from a counterfeit Apple store," 9to5mac alleges.

馬愛倫使用的手機(jī)是iPhone 5，目前案件還在調(diào)查中，在結(jié)果出來之前無法驗(yàn)證死者姐姐的話。但假冒偽劣的蘋果產(chǎn)品在中國隨處可見，網(wǎng)友“9to5mac”說：“顧客在假冒蘋果專賣店里買到假冒的充電器，還以為買的都是正品，這種事也完全有可能。”

Back in May, the China Consumers’ Association had warned about the risks of a “flood” of uncertified power chargers in the Chinese market, The Wall Street Journal points out. The association warned that the chargers could turn a smartphone into a “pocket grenade” and cause explosions, electric shock, or fires in a variety of electronic devices.

《華爾街日報》指出，早在今年五月，中國消費(fèi)者協(xié)會就對假冒偽劣充電器猖獗的市場現(xiàn)象作出警告，稱這些充電器有可能把智能手機(jī)變成“裝在衣袋里的手榴彈”，造成多類電子產(chǎn)品爆炸、漏電或起火。

The bride-to-be was also fresh off from the bath when she took the phone call. Moisture on the skin can diminish humans' natural resistance to electric shock.

據(jù)悉，這位準(zhǔn)新娘接電話前剛剛洗過澡。潮濕皮膚也會減弱人體的電擊阻抗力。
